COMPLETE TOOL GUIDE

Add consistent sequential numbers to PDF pages

Place readable numbering in a header or footer without rasterizing the original pages.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF and set the starting number.
  2. Select position, font size and an optional prefix.
  3. Generate the numbered copy and inspect margins on several pages.

Supported input

  • Readable PDF documents
  • Latin text prefixes supported by the built-in Helvetica font

Worked example

Add “Page 1” through “Page 42” at the bottom center of a board packet.

Limitations

  • Numbers overlay existing content and do not expand page margins.
  • Complex scripts require an embedded custom font and are not supported in this release.

Troubleshooting

  • Choose a smaller font when numbers overlap content.
  • Use a different corner when the footer already contains text.

Tool-specific questions

Can numbering start at zero or another value?

Yes. Enter the required integer starting value.

Are source pages re-encoded?

No. The number is drawn as an added vector text overlay.

QUICK ANSWERS

Before you process

Can I use this add pdf page numbers online without uploading my input?

Yes. This tool is labelled On-device, so the selected input is processed in your browser and is not sent to a ForgeMyFile processing API.

What happens if the browser cannot process it?

The tool shows a readable error and stops. It does not silently fall back to a cloud upload.

Why can performance differ between devices?

The browser is doing the work locally, so speed and practical file size depend on available memory, CPU and browser capabilities.
